SUV gains HST 300 and HST 400 variants with mild-hybrid tech, following the similar Jaguar F-Pace

Land Rover has added two new models to the Range Rover Velar line-up, which are driven by a choice of petrol and diesel engines with mild-hybrid technology.

The Range Rover Velar HST 400 is driven by a 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine, producing 394bhp and 405lb ft.

The Range Rover Velar HST 300, meanwhile, is powered by a 3.0-litre diesel engine, also with mild-hybrid technology, producing 295bhp and 479lb ft.

Each model is equipped with Land Rover’s Black Pack, with a contrasting black roof, privacy glass and gloss-black 21in wheels.

Inside, the HST features a black suede cloth headliner and steering wheel. A sliding panoramic sunroof is also included as standard.

It also gains electronic air suspension with adaptive dynamics, the Park Assist Pack and Land Rover’s Cabin Air Purification Plus system.

Sibling brand Jaguar is now offering the same powertrain and handling package for the closely related F-Pace SUV.

“The new Range Rover Velar HST offers a combination of carefully curated design enhancements and chassis features to add to its breadth of capability without compromising its trademark refinement and comfort,” said Finbar McFall, Land Rover brand director.

As well as the HST variants, the Range Rover Velar Edition has also been reintroduced to the model line-up. It features equipment based on the R-Dynamic SE and comes with 20in wheels, a black panoramic roof and privacy glass.

Similar to the F-Pace, it also gains Amazon Alexa compatibility integrated into the Pivi Pro infotainment system. It can stream media, make lists and reminders and control smart-home functions.

Prices start from £69,865 for the Velar D300 HST, while the more powerful P400 HST comes in at £73,815. Both are on sale now.

Mid-life update for mid-sized Range Rover feels a little like tweaking for its own sake but leaves behind a car still well capable of a luxurious air

Stunning, simply stunning.

Velar hits a new high with this engine, slaying the Hun at will. The svelt, clean lines exude premium. This car has no competitors, it compliments the F-PACE, Velar offering pure, road focussed luxury, F-PACE offering serious sporting intent. Nothing Fritz produces compares, their pathetic attempts offer nothing but unreliability, awkard styling and poor image.

Velar rides above, luxury, clean, elegant, premium.

Can't decide if this is /s or not.

Quick google - random example, 2021 US sales figures: Velar 13,271 BMW X5 60,725. Those 60,725 BMW's will likely still be chewing through miles when the 13,271 Valar's have been confined to great garage in the sky no doubt.

Dear Mr King

If you Google 'is the earth flat' you will find plenty of answers saying it's true - but it isn't, is it. The same goes for your Google produced figures you have written. They, like flat earthers are wrong.

JLR simply dominate the markets they sell into, producing products of unrivalled quality, with every last nut, bolt, rivet and stitch premium through and through.

Now, take a deep breath, close your eyes, count to 10, and come to your senses.

Are you high? In my household we've been brave/daft enough to have two new and relatively recent (one current) JLR products, setting aside reservations about reliability, shonky infotainment and plasticky interiors as they drove so well. Between them they were/are nothing but trouble, spending far, far more time in the garage than all their German predecessors/successors put together. I shudder to think what life would be like if you had one out of warranty. I love the brands and will probably buy again (silly me) but the quality is awful.

As one witty friend said to me: "You meet a lot of people who have bought a Range Rover, but you rarely meet anyone who has bought two."

Dear Nick

Your friend sounds about as witty as a German politician. Do they drive an Audi?

Whilst it's good to hear you've seen the light and moved away from those wretched products from Germania, it's rather concerning you appear to be, or have gone back. Perhaps madness is setting in.
