The Range Rover Sport is now available as a 542bhp EV, with 374 miles of range, from £109,810.
Technically identical to the recently revealed Range Rover Electric, the battery-powered Sport has performance stats that come close to today’s V8-engined SV and promises to match its ICE siblings for “refinement, luxury and all-terrain capability”.
With its BMW M3-beating power output supplemented by a generous torque figure of 627lb ft, the dual-motor SUV can sprint from 0-62mph in just 4.3sec – but Range Rover said that beyond offering straight-line speed, it's also “the most dynamically focused model in the line-up to date”.
That’s partly by virtue of the large 118.5kWh (usable) battery pack – among the biggest of any EV on sale – under the floor, which gives the Sport Electric a lower centre of gravity than the ICE Sport.
But it also touts the “stiffest body structure” in the model line-up and comes equipped with handling-boosting tech including active roll control, adaptive suspension and rear steering.
It has been engineered, said Range Rover, to “offer both engaging road dynamics and genuine breadth of capability”.
The battery is equipped with 800V electricals to enable charging at up to 350kW and is fully sealed to allow the EV to drive through deep water.
The Sport Electric is all but identical to the ICE Sport, marked out only by a subtly different front grille design and bespoke wheels.
It's available to order now ahead of deliveries beginning next year, with the entry-level Dynamic SE coming in at £45k less than the cheapest Range Rover Electric.
It will also be offered in Autobiography and limited-run First Edition trims, but there’s no word on additional powertrain configurations at this stage.
