Twenty examples of the supercharged petrol V8-powered large SUV will be sold in Britain, priced from £89,999

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, a 700bhp performance version of the American firm's largest SUV, will be sold in the UK from next year, with a starting price of £89,999.

The Trackhawk is powered by the Mopar Hellcat, a 6.2-litre V8 engine featuring a 2.4-litre IHI supercharger. As well as producing 700bhp at 6000rpm, Jeep says the unit delivers 640lb ft of torque, allowing the Trackhawk to do 0-62mph in 3.7sec and go on to a top speed of 180mph.

The four-wheel-drive machine has been tuned by Jeep’s SRT performance division. It features an eight-speed automatic gearbox with five driving modes, Bilstein active damping suspension to improve the handling, Brembo brakes and 20in titanium wheels.

The exterior features a number of styling tweaks from the standard Grand Cherokee, including a sculpted bonnet with vents, body-coloured wheel arches and quad exhaust pipes.

Inside, there are leather seats with embossed Trackhawk logos, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a 7.0in digital driver's information display and an 8.4in infotainment touchscreen.

Just 20 examples of the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk will be available in the UK market, arriving early next year.

This is not a premium product and therefore shouldnt be priced as one.

Fun though it may be to drive £45-49k is all its worth.

Why has it taken so long to

Why has it taken so long to get here? Its been available in Europe, and other RHD markets such as Australia for ages. And why limit the numbers? Its not as if £90K Jeeps are ever going to be in the top 10 seller list anyway.

However, while there is no rational reason why this thing should exist, or be remotely desireable, part of me wishes i was one of the 20 lucky owners. Its bonkers, and all the better for it.
