Richard first wrote for Autocar in 2009 and has been a freelance special correspondent since 2010.
While primarily a feature writer, Richard has a broad experience of working on Autocar including stints on the news desk, as a sub-editor and as acting picture editor. He has covered several international motor shows, conducting interviews with top executives, authored myriad new car reviews and used car buying guides, and has also edited the Road Test Yearbook.
Richard specialises in road trip stories and colour features from across the automotive spectrum, covering everything from restomods to the latest EVs, highway policing and military off-roaders. His work has collected several awards including Guild of Motoring Writers prizes for pieces on car design and classic cars, as well as the award for best overall feature.
He has written for Autocar’s sister title What Car? as part of the road test team and contributed to a range of other outlets both in the UK and abroad including Classic & Sports Car, Pistonheads, The Scotsman newspaper, Automobile (USA) and Oldtimer Markt (Germany).
He holds an MA (Hons) in Geography from the University of St Andrews.
