Korean brand’s new electric pick-up truck promises 690kg payload plus plenty of standard equipment

The new KGM Musso EV will arrive in UK showrooms in May, offering 240 miles of range and a 690kg payload capacity.

The electric pick-up truck will be priced from £42,495, including VAT and the government’s £2500 Plug-in Van Grant.

It's powered by an 80.6kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery supplied by Chinese giant BYD, plus two electric motors (one per axle) that combine to send 206bhp and 250lb ft of torque through all four wheels.

The traction battery can be recharged from 20-80% in 31 minutes, KGM said, and can be used to power external devices such as lights or power tools.

Inside the Musso EV, there's a large digital screen split into two 12.3in displays – one for instrumentation and the other for infotainment functions – plus heated and ventilated front seats.

Paddles are fitted to the rear of the steering wheel to provide control over the strength of the regenerative braking, plus there's a 'smart' function that automatically adjusts retardation based on conditions such as the gradient of the road, traffic and approaching speed cameras.

The cargo bed can be fitted with partitions to secure smaller loads, while the tailgate can be used as a seat when the truck is parked, supporting up to 150kg.

The Musso EV arrives as one in a burgeoning class of electric pick-ups. Until recently, the only option was the rear-wheel-drive Maxus T90EV, but it has since been joined by the 4WD Maxus eTerron 9Isuzu D-Max EV and Toyota Hilux Electric.
