Jaguar Land Rover has been "flabbergasted" by the early response to the Velar, with huge interest being shown in the new SUV

Land Rover is already confident of bumper local sales with its new Porsche Macan-chasing mid-sized SUV - the Range Rover Velar.

According to Jaguar Land Rover  UK managing director Jeremy Hicks, after just six days of public awareness of the Velar, the company's score of KMIs (Keep Me Informed requests) had passed 12,000, compared with around 3000 for the Range Rover Evoque - itself a spectacular seller - in the same period.

Cropley, who regards himself as the magazine’s “long stop”, has seen many changes since Autocar was a print-only affair, but claims that in such a fast moving environment he has little appetite for looking back.

He has been surprised and delighted by the generous reception afforded the My Week In Cars podcast he makes with long suffering colleague Matt Prior, and calls it the most enjoyable part of his working week.

The Reveal...

Nice product but I have to say I thought the reveal was a tad ....... self conscious compared with say, an Apple presentation. Instead of a huge screen behind Gerry McGovern showing 'the best bits', we were told, there's 4 cars in the building, go see for yourself. Mmmmmmm.
