Richard has been writing for top notch motoring titles for almost 40 years. He has also contributed to The Independent, Sunday Times and Daily Express newspapers. Richard is a senior contributor to Autocar, for whom he has worked for over 20 years, and also contributes to The Grand Tour. He was the founding editor of Channel 4’s successful motoring website 4car, and was series editor for a season of Channel 4’s “Driven” motoring programme.
Richard also spent 13 years at Car Magazine, rising from road test editor to deputy editor and editor. He has broken many car industry news stories, tested every kind of car, interviewed many an industry luminary and initiated several unusual travel stories, notably taking a Ferrari F512M to the Sahara in 1995.
Before his writing career began on Motor magazine in 1984, Richard worked for Austin Rover, first as a sponsored business studies trainee and subsequently full time as a sales forecaster and as a product marketing specialist. This industry experience provided a valuable insight into the car-making business.
Richard also enjoys motoring history, and has a not-necessarily-functioning fleet of 13 cars.
