Volkswagen has released an R-Line package for the Volkswagen Up, as it further expands the reach of the £9325 city car following the success of the Up GTI micro hot hatch.
The package adds trim across the car’s exterior including a revised front bumper, side sills, a silver strip in the grille, R-Line badging, a black roof and mirror caps and tinted windows.
It draws inspiration from the Up GTI, and is being offered for the first time since the model entered production in 2011.
Also offered in the pack are 16in or 17in alloys, the latter of which commanding a premium over the standard 16in wheels.
The pack starts at €795 in Europe but will not be offered in the UK, with Volkswagen UK being "happy with the Up product range as it stands". Despite the firm’s prolific R brand spreading to SUVs, Volkswagen has previously told Autocar that an R-badged Up would not happen, as R models are four-wheel drive only.
This means that a Polo R is also not on the cards. A T-Roc R is imminent, and has been spotted numerous times in development. A T-Cross R is not expected, as that model is less likely to be given an all-wheel-drive powertrain.

So tell us about something we can’t have.......
maybe Autocar could ask VW when we, VW’s customers, might actually get the cars we’ve ordered from them. Why is Vw not sorting out the wltp fiasco they have created due to not doing what was necessary.
We, their customers, are waiting with no answer to when our cars might get built, or delivered to us. All we’ve got from them is “we don’t know”.

here is an easier option, dont be a VW customer, other brands are available, brands that dont take the customer for granted, with better products, better after care and cheaper prices.
@ citytiger
.....such as?

Any of the Japanese brands, Kia, Hyundia, Ford, PSA, Renault, Skoda (even though they are part of the VW group), Mercedes, BMW..

Yeah, see, it was all going so well and then you dropped the M-Bomb. Wouldn't touch another with a ten foot barge pole.

Ford? For fuck's sake, the guy is just annoyed, there's no need to make him suicidal.

so I throw away the £1000 deposit then !!! How about car magazines (who employ journalists) look into what’s going on and get some answers (please).
A88A wrote:
They won’t as they are heavily subsidised these days by the car industry through advertisement payments

Demand your deposit back, if they have failed to meet the deadlines they set, if you believe the problems are that bad, start to kick up a god almighty fuss at the dealership, on social media and to VW head office in the UK and Germany.

This deposit information was not posted until AFTER you responded to citytiger...why did you not include this in your initial rant?. Luckily for citytiger he/she is not a mindreader...what a terrifying experience that would be.
R-Line spec on VW's other
R-Line spec on VW's other models includes sports seats, but as with the GTi, the Up misses out on this desirable feature again.
Non-story
Autocar’s equivalent of “What you could have had”. The R-Line pack is not coming to the UK so who cares if it costs €795? And there will not be an Up R either. Pointless. Except VW get more free advertising from Autocar.

The rest of us are interested, even if you are not. The world does not revolve around which might or might not be available in the UK

Good point, we dont hear much about stuff not vailable here in Autocar anymore, when was the last time you read somethign about the Ampera-e for instance ?

This article is FYI and perhaps others might like to know about it, despite you wishing to censor content. If you are as against Autocar and their advertisers acceptance policy as your own words suggest, then why the heck are you reading these pieces?.
