S-Max and Galaxy models could be next to get Ford's new 237bhp Ecoboot petrol engine

Ford’s new 237bhp Ecoboost petrol engine could find its way from the facelifted Mondeo into its Galaxy and S-Max ranges.

The four-cylinder turbocharged will appear for the first time in the revised Mondeo range this autumn and a company source said the S-Max and Galaxy ranges could also get the range-topping petrol engine should there be a market for it.

New Ford Mondeo revealed

Ford makes the Mondeo alongside the S-Max and Galaxy in Genk, Belgium and the new Ecoboost unit has been engineered to fit in all three models, which share the same basic underpinnings.

Ford claims the unit will offer greater performance than the 200bhp version of the engine - introduced earlier this year - while matching that motor's CO2 emissions of 179g/km.

The 237bhp four-pot could also have significance to performance Ford fans; it's hotly tipped to form part of the next-gen Focus RS, perhaps mated to an electric motor in the rear axle.

Re: Ford 'to expand Ecoboost range'

. . . . . and stop with all the 'ecoboost', 'econetic', 'ecomotive', 'bluemotion', 'blueefficiency', 'DRIVe', 'greenline', 'stopstart' monikers already! Just stick all the fuel saving tweaks on the models already in the range and be done with it. Phew . . .

Re: Ford 'to expand Ecoboost range'

Stop messing about Ford - this 237bhp engine will be a small proportion of your sales. Bring the 150bhp 1.6 turbo in now to replace the 2.0 petrol and make it competitive, finally.
