French brand begins shift to hybrid or fully electric cars with intentions of them representing a third of sales

DS has announced that it will launch only electrified cars from 2025, the same year it intends for a third of its sales to be hybrid or fully electric vehicles.

"Our ambition is very clear: for DS to be among the global leaders in electrified cars in its segment,” said DS CEO Yves Bonnefont.

The French car maker will launch its first electrified model, the plug-in hybrid DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4x4, next year. DS will show an all-electric car at the Paris motor show in October, suggesting a production version could hit the market soon after the PHEV SUV.

These cars are part of six new models confirmed for sale by 2023, with each offered with at least one electrified variant. The PSA Group premium brand said the cars would be a mixture of all-new market entries and replacements for existing models.

DS recently revealed the X E-Tense concept that shows the brand's take on an all-electric performance car of 2035. The concept used an unconventional layout of placing electric motors in board its front wheels. It’s said to produce up to a combined 1341bhp.

The company has competed in the Formula E championship since its inauguration in 2014. It said the technology developed there directly benefits its electrified road car development.

Its electric motorsport programme has arguably given DS a marketing advantage over its PSA siblings, Citroën and Peugeot, although Peugeot is hot on its heels as it plans to launch an EV version of the 208 next year.
