The revival of the Tipo name by Fiat has taken top spot for the most viewed reviews on Autocar for the week ending 16 October. Read below to find out what joined it in the top five.
1- Fiat Tipo 1.6 110 Multijet II
Italian manufacturer Fiat has revived the Tipo model, synonymous of the 1980s and 1990s, for the UK market as it looks to establish a foothold in the mass market C-segment. The new model is already available to buy in four door form, with hatchback and estate versions set to debut in Geneva next year.
The new Tipo is based on the Jeep Renegade’s platform and is available with 1.4- or 1.6-litre petrol engine, or 1.3- and 1.6-litre Multijet II diesels. Fiat also claims that the Tipo has been designed with ‘skills not frills’ in mind and class-topping roominess, boot capacity and value for money. Fortunately, we have had a chance to put the new Tipo through its paces, see what we made of it here.
Ferrari has decided to take the roof off of its 488, but for enthusiasts alike a big question mark was left over whether it could match its predecessor, the 458 Spider. The decision to fit turbochargers to the 488, left those at Maranello wondering whether those who potentially buying the Spider would be unimpressed by the turbine sounds produced.
However, the 488 Spider shares a number of commonalities with its GTB sibling, and also includes a metal folding roof like its predecessor. From an engine point of view the Spider takes the GTB’s 3.9-litre V8 which produces 100bhp more than the 458, but read on to see how Ferrari’s 488 Spider compares against the 458 version.
3- Audi A4 3.0 TDI Quattro 272 S line
The fifth-generation A4 maintains its position in the top five read reviews on Autocar for a second week, as Audi’s new compact executive focuses on improvements to its interior and engines, as it looks to remain competitive alongside BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar.
The range-topping 3.0-litre V6 TDI producing 268bhp and 442lb ft of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic box was on test here, which sees it go directly up against BMW’s 330d xDrive and the Jaguar XE 3.0-litre diesel.
As you would expect, there is lots of technology on offer, with the test car also sporting Audi’s S line trim, which equips the A4 with a S line body kit, leather trimmed sports seats and Audi’s LED headlights with dynamic indicators. Read our verdict on what the new A4 is like to drive.
