Autocar attempts Cholmondeley lap record

Cars as diverse as the Aston Martin One-77 and the 47-litre BMW Brutus will be lining up to take on the hillclimb at the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power, which starts today and runs throughout the weekend.

Autocar road test editor Matt Prior will attempt to smash the lap record in an Ariel Atom V8. The record for the 1.2 mile course currently stands at 62.68sec and was set in a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera in 2010.

The Autocar Supercar Paddock will be a star attraction at the show. Curated by Autocar editor-in-chief, Steve Cropley, the paddock will feature more than 20 of the world’s finest, fastest and most exotic supercars.

Cholmondely will also be celebrating 50 years of the Cobra. A display, Cobras at the Castle, will see the largest gathering of the Anglo-American icon in the UK this year. There will also be a special race category, the AC Cobra 50th Anniversary Class, in which the most famous Cobras, including one of only three lightweight cars ever built, will compete.

Other attractions include the Moto Guzzi V8, which held the record for fastest grand prix motorcycle for 20 years, reigning Isle of Man TT champion John McGuinness riding a Honda CBR1000RR superbike and a host of aerial displays.
