Francois Provost succeeds Luca de Meo as Renault Group CEO

The Renault Group has named François Provost as its new CEO. The Frenchman takes over from Luca de Meo, who officially moved to head up Gucci owner Kering on 15 July. Brit Duncan Minto, who has been serving as interim CEO since that date, moves back to his role of CFO. Provost takes the top job after serving 23 years with the French company, most recently as chief procurement, partnerships and public affairs officer. In a statement about his appointment, the Renault Group cited a particular focus on expanding the firm's presence across international markets and partnership development. “In this rapidly changing industry, his determination and sense of responsibility will be true assets to guide the teams and sustain our momentum,” said board chairman Jean-Dominique Senard. “Thanks to his expertise and knowledge of the company, we will be able to complete the implementation of our strategic plan, finalise the terms of the next one and ensure its successful execution.” Provost joins at a crucial time for the Renault Group as it looks to continue its impressive rise instigated by de Meo. During his five-year tenure, the Italian transformed a company driven to the brink of collapse by the Covid pandemic by pushing it into more profitable segments and bringing to market appealing new models, such as the new 5 and 4. “It is with pride and gratitude that I welcome my appointment,” Provost said. “I would like to warmly thank my president, Jean-Dominique Senard, and the board of directors for the trust they have placed in me.” On his immediate plans for the company, he said: “Renault Group benefits from strong fundamentals, with committed teams, an outstanding range of products, strong brands and an innovative organisational model. “These will be invaluable assets as we accelerate our transformation in an increasingly demanding environment for our industry. “You can count on my commitment and determination to write the next page of our history together."
