Honda’s European boss has campaigned for regulators to allow car makers more flexibility in reducing their emissions, rather than imposing a blanket EV mandate, even if it means stricter CO2 targets.
Hans De Jaeger told Autocar that a lack of “consistency” in the European Commission’s approach to decarbonisation is making life “extremely difficult” for car makers; and that the mandated move to an all-electric fleet is restricting choice for customers and having an adverse impact on new car sales in the region.
