The new Chevrolet Trax SUV will make its debut at the Paris motor show. Three engines make the line-up and first deliveries are expected early 2013

The Chevrolet Trax — Chevrolet’s version of the Vauxhall Mokka — will make its debut at the Paris motor show next month ahead of European sales in early 2013.

The high-riding five-seater is 4248mm long, 1776mm wide and sits on a 2555mm wheelbase, making the Chevy 32mm shorter and 131mm higher than the equivalent Vauxhall.

Like the Vauxhall Mokka, the Chevy’s engine line-up includes a 138bhp, 148lb ft 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol, a 117bhp naturally aspirated 1.6-litre petrol and a 1.7-litre diesel unit, which produces 128bhp and 221lb ft of torque.

All-wheel drive and a six–speed automatic gearbox will be available for 1.4 and 1.7-litre-powered cars only, and all manual transmission versions will come with a stop-start system.

Standard interior features of top-spec Chevrolet Trax models will include Chevrolet’s MyLink multimedia system, which is displayed on a seven-inch touchscreen.

Safety kit on Chevy’s new SUV comprises electronic stability control with hill start assist (HSA). Trailer stability assist (TSA) and hill descent control (HDC) come as standard on LT-spec vehicles.

Chevrolet Europe president and managing director Susan Docherty said: "Trax will deliver on all of the traditional Chevrolet values and more. It is a modern, highly versatile yet fuel-efficient small SUV, offering car-like handling and all-wheel drive."

Chevrolet remains tight-lipped on pricing, but the Trax will cost a similar amount to its Skoda Yeti rival, prices of which start from £14,945 for the entry-level 1.2 TSI E 2WD.

Looks better than the Mokka

Looks better than the Mokka at the front, but worse at the rear. The Buick version (the original) looks the best
