More details of forthcoming new city car that makes its debut in September

Suzuki has released more details of its new Splash city car, which makes its debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September. The smartly styled Splash will come with a choice of three engines. There are two Suzuki-designed petrols - a 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit producing 64bhp and a 1.2 four-cylinder developing 85bhp and a Fiat-designed 1.3-litre common-rail diesel with 74bhp.All three engines come with a five-speed manual ’box as standard, while the more powerful petrol can be ordered with a four-speed auto. There’s plenty of safety kit as standard, including anti-lock brakes with brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution and stability control. Passive safety features include six airbags (dual front side and curtain airbags), seatbelt-force limiters and seatbelt pretensioners for the front seats. The Splash will be built at Suzuki’s plant in Hungary, alongside its sister car, the new Vauxhall Agila. Both of the 3.72m-long city cars use a 30mm-shorter version of the Suzuki Swift platform. There's no word on UK pricing yet, but we'd expect the Splash to start at around £7500.

The Suzuki Splash is a city car which offers plenty of space and is fun to drive. Expensive though.
