The Volkswagen Beetle range has been expanded with the addition of new engines and gearboxes. The entry-level 1.2-litre TSI engine with a manual gearbox means Beetles are now priced form £15,195, £1,405 less than before.
The 1.2-litre TSI is already available with a DSG transmission, but this is the first time it is available with a manual ’box. A 1.6-litre TDI variant, which is mated to either a five-speed manual or seven-speed DSG becomes the entry-level diesel unit.
Both new variants are offered in entry-level Beetle or Design trims.
The addition of the 104bhp 1.6-litre TDI means the Beetle range now has a model in VED band B. Currently, the most efficient model emits 129g/km. Volkswagen claims 65.7mpg on the combined cycle.
First deliveries are expected in January 2013.
