Soaring sales in first half of 2022 nudge Chinese value manufacturer up seven spots in the charts

MG is now the UK’s 12th largest manufacturer by sales volume, seven months into the year, having leapfrogged Land RoverSkodaMiniVolvoRenaultCitroën and Seat.

The Chinese brand, owned by SAIC, recorded a 76% jump in sales to 28,149 for a 3% market share, according to figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

I think it's a bit simpler than that - they are offering cars that people want, at prices more people can afford.
