New model comes exclusively in Eternal Blue Mica paint and is powered by 158bhp 2.0-litre engine

Mazda has launched a limited-run version of its MX-5 RF sports car called Sport Black.

Due in 300 units, the folding hard-top variant comes exclusively in Eternal Blue Mica paint and uses the 158bhp version of Mazda’s atmospheric 2.0-litre engine that sends power rearwards through a standard-fit limited-slip differential.

No changes have been made to the car’s powertrain, so it can hit 62mph in 7.3sec and has a top speed of 133mph.

The new variant gets its name from the black trim added to the exterior. It includes a rear spoiler and mirror covers finished in the shade. The wheels are gunmetal-coloured, while there are leather seats inside.

Since this car builds on the spec of SE-L Nav trim, the Sport Black edition also has rain-sensing wipers, rear parking sensors and automatic headlights, along with climate control, cruise control, a touchscreen MZD infotainment system and Bluetooth connectivity.

The new variant will make its public debut on 29 April at the MX-5 Owners Club Spring Rally at Goodwood Motor Circuit. It will go on sale on 28 May, priced from £25,695.

This makes the Sport Black edition £100 more expensive than the recently launched MX-5 Z Sport. That car, based on the soft-top version, is also limited to 300 units and gets a raft of additional features including a standard-fit red roof and leather seats.

I have mixed feelings about

I have mixed feelings about this RF version. Whilst its a very attractive vehicle, one of the things I like about the hard top version of the previous model was that it looked exactly the same as the soft top. And the folding roof was much simpler than this one.

Whoopeeeeeee !!!!!!!!!!!

Just what the motoring world needs.  Another “Black” edition.  Which isn’t black.  As usual.
