2017 Renault Mégane saloon spotted testing

A saloon version of the new Renault Mégane has been spotted testing in mainland Europe ahead of its arrival in selected European markets early next year.

Although the photographed test mule is heavily camouflaged, it looks as though it features tail-lights that are almost identical in design to those of the Mégane hatch, with both light units stretching into the middle of the car’s bootlid. This mimics look of the larger Talisman saloon.

There appear to be no changes to the design of the car’s front, and the same can be expected for the car’s dashbaord, although rear head room might be slightly impeded by that new, sloping roofline.

Insiders say the saloon will share its engines and specifications with the regular hatchback Mégane, so it is likely to be sold with a range of four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines producing up to 202bhp and offering as much as 76.4mpg.

However, as with the Talisman, Renault has no intention of selling the Mégane saloon in the UK. The new Mégane will be sold here in hatchback and Sport Tourer forms only, with prices for the hatch starting from £16,600 and the Sport Tourer from £19,070.
