Mild update for Jetta saloon, including visual upgrades and an interior refresh

Volkswagen has previewed a light refresh of its Jetta saloon ahead of its reveal at the New York motor show in the coming days.

The saloon gets a light nip at the front and rear; the changes are done with a view to improving the Jetta’s aerodynamic efficiency.

At the front there’s a subtly altered front grille, revised air intakes, new LED daytime running lights and a new bumper, while the lines at the rear are tweaked to give the Jetta a more slippery shape.

The interior changes are even more minor, according to VW. There’s a new instrument display and steering wheel design, plus new trim and seat fabric options.

The model on show in New York is the US-spec version, but the looks will be replicated on the European Jetta, order books for which will open in August ahead of November deliveries.

Engines offered will include a 1.4 TSI petrol unit with 148bhp and a 2.0 TDI unit with either 108bhp or 148bhp. The engines have been made EU compliant and are offered with stop-start and a battery energy recuperation system as standard.

Three trim levels will be offered: S, SE and GT.
