The Gordini brand is only likely to be revived again if it can be done with “more credibility”, according to Renault’s chief operating officer, Carlos Tavares.
Most recently, the Gordini name has been used on special editions of the Twingo, Clio and Wind, but no performance tweaks have been made.
“Being authentic is very important, and it is true that a few versions of Gordini have not been 100 per cent authentic,” said Tavares.
However, Tavares does not believe that Gordini could sustain being introduced as a stand-alone brand.
Instead, he suggested that one potential direction for Gordini would be to use the name on the most hardcore versions of Renaultsport-developed cars.
