Morgan boosts Plus 4 power output with a remapped engine and a range of other tweaks

The most powerful Morgan Plus 4 yet has been revealed at the Geneva motor show.

The revised model features the same 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine as before but develops 154bhp and 148lb ft, an increase on the current car’s 145bhp and 140lb ft. Much of the power increase comes from an ECU remap that is the first ever developed by Morgan itself.

It is understood the new car will retain the Mazda-sourced five-speed manual gearbox and its 877kg kerb weight will be unchanged. Morgan is still to confirm the new Plus 4’s 0-62mph time, but it is expected to be around 7.3sec, with top speed thought to be around 120mph.

Fuel economy and CO2 emissions are similar to the previous model at 40mpg and 164g/km.

The 2014 model also features a new dashboard layout, new interior trim packages and new VDO instrumentation. The new car's £36,285 price is unchanged over the previous model, which will be discontinued.

Morgan introduced the Plus 4 in 1950 as a more powerful alternative to the 4/4. The original ceased production in 1969, before being resurrected for 15 years from 1985. The current car launched in 2005.

The updated 2014 Morgan 3 Wheeler has also received its European show premiere at the Geneva show.
