Porsche sells stakes in Bugatti-Rimac and Rimac Group

Porsche has sold its shares in Bugatti-Rimac and the Rimac Group to a consortium led by US-based investment firm HOF Capital for an undisclosed amount. HOF Capital first invested in the Rimac Group in June 2022, after Porsche established the Bugatti-Rimac joint-venture. Other key stakeholders include BlueFive Capital – the biggest investor in the consortium – and a number of unnamed backers from the US and European Unions. Although the details of the transaction remain secret, the move is likely intended to help provide Porsche with a cash injection – and therefore greater financial stability – after its profits fell from €5.64bn in 2024 to just €413m last year. Michael Leiters, appointed CEO of Porsche in October 2025, said in a statement that the move “will focus Porsche on the core business” of mainstream sports and luxury cars. It has sold its full 45% stake in Bugatti-Rimac and 20.6% stake in the Rimac Group and, following the deal’s completion, the Rimac Group will take full control of Bugatti. This is scheduled to take place by the end of this year. Mate Rimac, CEO of Bugatti-Rimac and founder of the Rimac Group, said: “Porsche has been a crucial partner, and we are deeply grateful for their role in establishing Bugatti Rimac. With the strong foundations their support has provided, we now have a structure that allows us to execute even faster on our long-term vision. We look forward to our collaboration with our new partners.” Hisham Elhaddad, co-founder and managing partner of HOF Capital, said it would target “disciplined growth” while retaining Bugatti-Rimac’s “craftsmanship and originality”. In a blog post, HOF Capital said its investment was a vote of confidence in Mate Rimac. “What made the opportunity truly differentiated, in our view, was the founder,” it said, referencing Rimac’s rags-to-riches story – having started with converting an E30 BMW 3 Series to electric power on his own some 20 years ago. “Bugatti today accounts for a substantial share of Rimac Group’s revenue and, in our view, represents one of the most durable franchises in the global automotive landscape,” it added. “Our role is not to reshape Bugatti or Rimac Group, but to help Mate and his team execute on the vision they have been building toward for years.”
