New-generation Volkswagen Golf Bluemotion confirmed at the Paris show; will hit production next summer

The new VW Golf Bluemotion will go on sale next summer, averaging 88.3mpgand emitting 85g/km of CO2.

Based on the seventh generation Golf, the latest Golf Bluemotion was confirmedat the Paris motor show, where a concept version of the car was unveiled.Insiders say, however, that the stated economy figures will hold true inproduction.

VW engineering supremo Dr Ulrich Hackenberg has stated that: "This is the most efficient Golf of all time. The Golf isthe most important car in the VW group and it was a challenge not to make it only a great car, but the best car in its class."

The new Golf Bluemotion, which is powered by a 108bhp 1.6-litre diesel with184lb ft of torque from 1500rpm, is 15 per cent more efficient than thecurrent model.

Prices have yet to be revealed.
